Job Prep Workshop
  1. What workshops do you offer?

  2.       We offer a wide variety of Job Prep Workshops including Online Applications, Resume Basics, and Interviewing with Confidence. We also offer Orientations for our services and WorkKeys Assessments. For a full listing of workshops and calendar of classes click here...
  3. Where are the workshops held?
  4.       All of our workshops are held at the Alliance Worknet in the EDD office located at 629 12th Street in Modesto.
  5. Is there a charge for the workshops?
  6.       All of our workshops are free and open to the public.
  7. How do I schedule a workshop?
  8.       Call: 209-558-WORK (9675) and our receptionist will schedule you for any workshops of interest.
  9. Will attending the Alliance Worknet Job Prep Workshops affect my unemployment benefits?
  10.       Our classes are offered to help you do an effective job search. They are not vocational training's or classes that would interfere with the job search EDD requires for unemployment benefits.

CareerQuest
  1. How many appointments do I have to go to before I get enrolled (start services)?
  2.       The Orientation appointment is your first appointment where we explain the program in detail. The Eligibility appointment is usually the second appointment where you bring in the documentation required by law to determine if you meet the program qualifications. The third appointment will be the WorkKeys assessment. The Fourth will be an individual appointment with your Youth Advisor to process enrollment.
    It seems like a lot but it is great practice for the hard work of trying to find a job!!
  3. What does CareerQuest do for me once I am enrolled?
  4.       Careerquest Youth Advisors will determine your individual service strategy with you based on what goals you need to achieve in the areas of education, employment and overcoming personal barriers.
    Careerquest is designed to increase your chances of getting hired and continuing your education through advising, training, and preparation. Careerquest does not "give" you a job.
  5. What does low income mean and who's proof of income do I have to provide?
  6.       Low income is determined by the Federal Government each year. We will give you a guideline at the Orientation. You are required to bring proof of income for you and possibility your family members you live with to the second appointment, Eligibility. Proof of income is defined as: check stubs, award letters from SSI, UIB, or other government programs, and/or printouts from employers or Social Security Administration.
  7. What if I already have a job or am already enrolled in college?
  8.       We can still help with other goals you might have depending on your individual situation. Come to an Orientation to find out more!
  9. How long before I get a job?
  10.       Careerquest will work with you to prepare you for getting hired by any employer in our local area. However, no program can guarantee you a job. We help you present yourselves according to employer's expectations so you can be the #1 candidate for the job!

Careers in Manufacturing
  1. What is the Careers in Manufacturing program and what can it do for me?
  2.       The Careers in Manufacturing (CIM) is a collaboration between Stanislaus County high schools and local manufacturing employers. It has been designed to help match local youth with various manufacturing employers. A few of the employers who have worked with the program in past years are: Frito Lay, Gallo, Hilmar Cheese, Liberty Packing/Morning Star, Pacific Southwest Container & Silgan Containers.
  3. What are the program requirements and/or qualifications?

    High school graduate or GED
    18-21 years of age
    Workkeys scores of at least 4-4-4
    Motivated
    Able to pass a six-month drug test

  6.       WorkKeys® is a job skills assessment measuring "real world" skills that a growing number of employers believe are critical to job success. Your Employment Specialist will use it to show how your skills compare to specific jobs and training requirements. For more information – visit

Youth Follow-Up
  1. What is Youth Follow-Up?
          Youth Follow-Up is a one year program that is self driven by the client (participant) who has been through, and exited training at CareerQuest, Computer Tutor, CVOC, Ceres Project YES. It can provide you with job leads, help getting your GED/HS diploma, higher education enrollment, funding for textbooks, bus passes, incentive gift cards, Bus Passes, community resources, counseling/family needs or obtaining a job or gaining a higher income.
  2. Why would you need Youth Follow-Up Services?
          As a continued free service to assist a client(participant) with the any needs as listed above.

Job Seeker
  1. How does the Alliance WorkNet help me get a job?
          Anyone can utilize our free services by attending our workshops including interview skills, resume writing, and using on-line tools for your job search. We also offer WorkKeys testing/certification and a full range of services at our Career Resource Centers.
    If you pursue our enrolled services, you will work directly with an Employment Specialist who will assist you in developing an individual employment plan, including identifying potential barriers and/or training needs and to other resources to help you reach your employment goals.
  2. Is there any cost to me to go through this program?
          No, funding is received through the Workforce Investment Act.
  3. What commitment do I need for this program?
          It is necessary for you to actively participate with the program and follow up on all job leads and referrals, as agreed upon with your Employment Specialist. The most important aspect is to stay in contact with your Employment Specialist, to keep him/her updated regarding any changes to your situation.
  4. Does Alliance WorkNet work like a temporary agency?
          No, we rarely send an individual on temporary assignments; our agency´s goal is to help individuals find permanent employment.
  5. What do you do with the information I give you?
          The information supplied is kept confidential and secure. It is used to determine eligibility for the program. Information is stored in a government office with security precautions.
  6. Is my personal information shared with employers?
          Personal information is not shared with employers. The only information that we provide to an employer is that which helps you get hired. While working with your Employment Specialist, you will clarify what information can be released.
  7. If I am working now, can I still qualify for your programs?
          Yes, the program is designed to assist underemployed individuals find full-time/part-time employment. It is however necessary for you to qualify under the program´s guidelines and have the time to work with our programs.
  8. What if I'm receiving SDI, Worker's Compensation, SSI, etc, can you still help me?
          You must be available for full time regular work and be released to work by your doctor to be enrolled with the Alliance Worknet program. The Career Resource Centers are available to help anyone with their job search activities.
  9. What jobs can you get for me / With what companies do you work?
          We assist by partnering with you in your job search and providing you with services that can make you a more successful job candidate. We cannot require an employer to interview or hire you, however there are a number of companies that recruit through the Alliance WorkNet; you can access a list of our currently posted job openings here.

Career Resource Centers
  1. What exactly does the Career Resource Center offer a job seeker?
  2.       We offer services to anyone who is looking for a job – all our centers are free and open to the public. Each center has computers with Internet access, fax machines, copy machines and telephones to use for job search related purposes. We also have friendly staff in every center to assist you.
  3. How do I create a Resume?
  4.       You can come in to one of our Career Resource Centers and use our Resume Builder to create a resume. If you need help putting one together, you can attend one of our workshops (Resume Builder or Resume Basics) to get some assistance. Once you have a draft, you can have it critiqued in the Modesto Career Resource Center.
  5. How do I apply for a job on line?
  6.       You can use the Career Resource Center computers to go to employer web sites, or job search sites to apply for jobs online – either by completing online applications or e-mailing your resume.
  7. How can I send a fax?
  8.       We have fax machines in all of our Career Resource Centers to send job search related faxes. There are printed instructions next to all the machines, and staff are available to help you if you need assistance.
  9. How do I file for Unemployment?
  10.       You can apply either by telephone or online. The web site to apply is: E-Apply 4 UI
  11. How can the job seeker get involved with the Alliance?
  12.       It only takes a few moments to sign up to get a scan card that will give you access to our Career Resource Centers – just drop in and we will help you get started. If you would like to access some of the additional services that are offered through the Alliance, our staff can sign you up for an orientation, to help you determine what we can do to help you.
  13. How can I get a typing certificate?
  14.       Simply come in to one of our Career Resource Centers, try a sample speed test on the Mavis Beacon program, and once you are ready to try for a certificate, we will give you an official typing test. Tests are generally given any time between 8 am and 4 pm. In addition, we provide other certifications, for example: MS Office 2007, Excel, and Intuit QuickBooks Pro 2006.
